Matsunaga Gengo was Edo's finest firefighting samurai, known as the Fire-Eating Bird, until an incident drove him from the profession. When the Shinjo clan asks him to lead a brigade with no money, staff, or reputation, his wife Miyuki encourages him… to rebuild it with a band of outcasts; while saving lives, they investigate a series of suspicious blazes known as foxfires.

Give it a shot if you want historical drama, fires in Edo, and a legendary former firefighter assembling a brigade that no one else would choose.
You'll enjoy it if you're looking for team work, realistic action and adult protagonists with a past.
What distinguishes it from fantasy action is that there are no powers against fire: experience, coordination and deciding which part of Edo should be sacrificed matter.
