Mizu was born mixed-race in an Edo-period Japan closed to foreigners and learned to hide both her blue eyes and her identity as a woman while mastering the sword. Believing one of the four white men who remained in the country is her father, she hunt…s them to avenge the life forced upon her; along the way, the apprentice Ringo and samurai Taigen complicate her path toward the trafficker Abijah Fowler.
You should watch it for Mizu, her sword duels, and animation that makes each fight feel elegant, tough, and very personal.
It's a good fit if you want adult action, revenge and a beautiful but not at all idealized Edo Japan.
What sets it apart from the usual samurai tale is Mizu's dual identity: she travels as a man and hides her mixed-race eyes in a Japan that would condemn her for both.
