Ken Kaneki survives Rize's attack through a transplant that turns him into a human-ghoul hybrid. Unable to eat normal food and horrified by his need for human flesh, he finds shelter at the Anteiku café, where he learns that ghouls also build familie…s; caught between investigators and predators, he must decide how to live without abandoning either half of himself.

I'd recommend it for its dark atmosphere, the fights and the conflict of Kaneki, who stops fitting in among humans just when he doesn't know how to live as a ghoul either.
It's a good fit if you're looking for urban fantasy, identity crises and characters trapped between two sides.
What separates it from other monster stories is that the conflict begins with eating: Kaneki retains a human mind inside a body that only accepts human flesh.
